Solar power is held back by the sheer amount of land space it requires – besides, placing a massive solar farm in the deserts of the world are fraught with other challenges as well. It would seem obvious then that the seas are our answer – but current sea-based solar power generation ideas are limited in their scope and effectiveness, due to their use of valuable littoral space. Large floating solar farms are also incredibly vulnerable to storms and pose a hazard to shipping. The SeaShrooms initiative tackles the deepest problems with sea-based solar power solutions with a simple solution – who says that solar cells need to be constantly connected to each other? Imagine tens of thousands of small floating mushroom-shaped drones, each one contributing a small part to an immense sum of solar power
